Gardens
Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Cotswold Hills, Sudley
Castle is steeped in history. It has been home to, or visited by
some of the most prominent kings and queens of England and along
with its beautiful gardens, makes it a fantastic day out.
Westonbirt Arboretum
The Forestry Commission's National Arboretum contains one of the
finest collections of trees and shrubs in Europe. Today there are
around 18,000 specimens in 600 acres of beautifully landscaped
gardens.
Hidcote Manor Garden
Owned by the National Trust, Hidcote Manor Gardens is considered one
of England’s great gardens. It contains a series of outdoor rooms,
each with a different character and separated by walls and well
trimmed hedges.
Bourton-on-the-Water
Bourton-on-the-Water has been described as the "Little Venice" of
the Cotswolds and is one of the most popular tourist spots in the
region. Amongst its attractions is "Birdland", an authentic zoo for
birds which hosts a remarkable collection of penguins. With its many
shops and cafes, this makes Bourton-on-the-Water an enjoyable day
out.
Cotswold Water Park
At 40 square miles, the Cotswold Water Park is approximately the
same size as Jersey. It lies to the south of Cirencester and boasts
140 lakes. It is the largest man-made complex in Britain. It has a
wonderful bathing beach, boat and cycle hire, a water sports centre,
lakeside cafe, walks, barbecues and a nature reserve. Also for the
land lovers, there is hiking, horse riding, cycling and fishing.
With so much to do you could never get bored.
